BRIEF BIO Scott Leibowitz, MD is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and internationally recognized expert in gender care for youth and their families. He is a distinguished member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and led its Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee from 2013-2021. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and co-led the Adolescent chapter guidelines for the organization's Standard of Care 8th edition. Dr. Leibowitz is frequently invited to speak as a keynote or Grand Rounds speaker, and has spoken hundreds of times on the subject since 2008. He has trained thousands of providers in its Global Education Institute, including providers in Iceland, Israel, Japan, Norway, and Vietnam. He has written two casebooks for clinicians & has over 30 peer-reviewed publications, some of which have contributed to the growing scientific literature on the effects of gender care. Dr. Leibowitz has extensive clinical experience in the field of gender care for youth, having served in three academic, pediatric, multidisciplinary gender centers from 2008-2024. He is known for his comprehensive & balanced approach to care and his work has been featured in the New York Times magazine in June 2022. ________________________ CLINICAL PHILOSOPHY Dr. Leibowitz recognizes that every person and family has individualized needs and he has expertise helping families of all types navigate different perspectives and challenges. He believes in giving parents/caregivers their own non-judgmental space to discuss issues of importance as they see it. Dr. Leibowitz approaches clinical and consultative relationships as an educational starting point for all parties involved. Clients/patients educate him on their lives & experiences, and he has a unique, judgment-free way of providing education to them (including those with varying belief systems) on issues related to gender and gender diversity. Dr. Leibowitz also believes that involving mental health professionals' in the decision-making process for important treatment decisions is highly important, especially with adolescents. ________________________ SERVICES Coming soon! Dr. Leibowitz will be offering parents & caregivers of trans/gender diverse (TGD) young people 3-hour consultations across two visits (2-hours in the first visit and a 1-hour follow up visit). By the completion of the consultation, additional consultative follow up appointments may be recommended and/or beneficial for you and/or other family members. He also has very limited availability for individual therapy services for TGD young adults and/or their family members.
